The theme of this year's "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" is derived from a book published in 2009: Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity written by Monica L. Miller.

The idea being explored through the theme is basically that black dandyism could be traced through cultural histories from the 18th century through to the present and situated in dandyism and a particularization of contemporary black dandyism, seeing how clothes serve to forge these black identities.

There are twelve parts into which the exhibition will be divided, reflecting the theme for dandy style: Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, Champion, Respectability, Jook, Heritage, Beauty, Cool, and Cosmopolitanism.

Who is Getting the Invite?

The Met Gala is most known for its guest list, which is set by Vogue's Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. In total there are around 450 guests, including celebrities, fashion designers, and other power figures from all walks of life.

The selection process is kept a secret, and invitations are highly coveted. For those not on the invitation list, and who are really curious about the event, tickets to the Met Gala are available for purchase by the general public. But the price is high, as it's a major fundraising event. In the past year, the ticket prices for a single ticket to the 2024 Met Gala required a donation of $75,000 per person.
